Hayloft Fabrics

Our History
In keeping with the barn theme, a loft measuring 5000 sq. feet was added in 1978 as part of the expansion of Farmer Brown's grocery store. Even in the beginning, Hayloft Fabrics catered to quilters. Anne Mary Hoover, the first owner, used her background as a quilter to develop a reputation for the store as "The place to go for the best selection of quilting fabrics".

In 1991, Martin's Country Market, specializing in meat cutting, bought the store from the Hoovers. In 2002, the Martins made a strong commitment to update the look of Hayloft Fabrics. Under new management, the prices of old, "dated" materials have been slashed to make room for more "high-end" quilting fabrics. Lighting is being improved. In addition to the locally made quilts, an area of handcrafts showcases local talent. A new section of crafts makes it possible to be even more creative.

Our Staff

Mabel Martin
For over 21 years, Mabel has been giving friendly help at the Hayloft. Years of sewing for her family of seven children have given her much sewing experience. As a lifelong quilter, she has sold over 50 quilts. She finds the new techniques of rotary cutting an improvement over the old methods. A frequent winner of ribbons at fairs speaks to the level of her abilities.

Brenda Summers
Brenda has been a lifelong sewer since taught by her grandmother at age 5. After a quilting class in the Bicentennial year, the addiction has led to a big collection of fabric and quilting books. I know many of you can identify with that. After years of having a craft shop and working in a craft department of a store, she has developed a wide range of experience with many crafts. Brenda manages Hayloft Fabrics and would be glad to answer any questions you may have related to Hayloft Fabrics.

Chris Reifsnyder
Chris began quilting in earnest in 2003 when she was inspired by a wallhanging in a quilt shop. In just a few short years she has become a prolific quilter with excellent color choices, precision patchwork and small, uniform hand stitches. To date she has made 68 quilts and tops with several more in progress. Most impressive is that her fabric stash is small and that almost all of the quilts are finished. Beginning quilters are appreciative of her helpful guidance through first time projects. Shopping for fabric and piecing the quilt top are her favorite parts of the quilting process.

Laurel Danna
Thirty years of sewing have given Laurel a background in a great variety of sewing situations. Sewing clothes for her family has evolved into home décor projects, crafts for the grandkids and into her greatest sewing love - quilting. Every part of the quilting process excites her from transforming multiple fabrics into spectacular quilts to helping customers produce their own quilting success story. Some of her latest ventures are paper-piecing intricate patterns and creating a hand appliquéd wallhanging in deep, richly colored wools. The beautiful sweaters and ponchos produced by her, point to her skills as an accomplished knitter.
